Koen Kessels conducts the Royal Opera House Orchestra and Chorus in this performance of choreographer Liam Scarlett's ballet. Federico Bonelli portrays Victor Frankenstein, whose mother dies in childbirth as he departs for university. Determined to find a way of reviving her, Victor studies hard, and eventually succeeds but rebuffs his creation (Steven McRae), disgusted with himself. Years later, Victor has continued with his life and is due to marry childhood sweetheart Elizabeth (Laura Morera), but the creature has remained in his shadow, pining for acceptance.

The Royal Ballet's Miyako Yoshida, Stephen McRae, and Gary Avis take the lead roles in this production of Tchaikovsky's classic work recorded in December 2009. Koen Kessels conducts the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House.
